Luton homes are very competitive in price in comparison to the neighbouring towns.

There are numerous new housing developments taking place in various areas of Luton with a number of high quality new-build houses and flats to rent and buy. Many people choose Luton for its affordable homes, transport links and close proximity to London.

Luton Council were awarded Housing Business Ready status following an assessment by the Housing Finance Institute in 2017. The housing strategy sets ambitious targets for 3,500 new homes by 2022, including at least 400 which the council will develop itself. It is supporting investment in new and existing housing in the town through a number of investment routes:

Private sector developments

The council is in discussions with developers across a range of sites to support delivery of new homes including affordable housing.

Napier Park Gateway – Redrow

440 homes are currently being built at Eaton Heights which are due to be completed by 2020.

LU2ON – Strawberry Star

Planning permission has been approved for 685 homes. Phase one is planned to commence in spring 2019.  The site will also include a 200 room hotel, a medical and wellness centre, as well as retail and leisure facilities once completed.

Opto Property Group

Have built over 800 purpose built student rooms across three high specification buildings in Luton.  They are due to complete New Bedford House, a residential development comprising one and two bedroom apartments by the end of 2018.

Further projects in the pipeline include two mixed-use residential and commercial projects; Imperial Square development and Cumberland Street, delivering one, two and three-bedroom apartments to the town’s Build to Rent sector.

MBU Capital

Have commenced building 183 new flats in a landmark development near the town centre at 13-31 Dunstable Road.  The development comprises 133 one bedroom flats and 50 two bedroom flats.

Council house building programme

Developing a programme of new council homes on a series of small sites, as well as the major regeneration of central Marsh Farm, with 118 homes.

Housing association developments

Housing associations are significant developers in the town being funded in a variety of ways.

Foxhall Homes

A company that is wholly owned by Luton Council developing a number of sites across the town with a mixture of homes to rent or buy.

Solway Road – a development of 15 homes which are due to be completed by August 2019.

Weltmore Road – a development of 51 homes which are due to be completed by April 2021.

Foxhall Homes have several further sites for development which will deliver hundreds of homes across the town.
